Credit Card Terminal End Of Life.

With recent mandates and regulations changes from Credit Card Issuers (which include Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover etc.) has forced transaction processors (First Data, Chase Paymentech, TSYS etc.) to make a decision to shift away from the older, less advanced hardware and promote a greater awareness of compliance and technology.

As such, merchants should no longer be using legacy devices for a variety of reasons, including the following:

Non-compliance of the mandates set forth by the Payment Brands and the PCI Data Security Standards Council.
Limited memory capability of first generation terminals that do not allow for new application development to meet those mandates.
Limited availability of hardware discontinued by the manufacturer.
Additionally, in 2015, there will be an industry-wide liability shift relating to EMV-enabled payments and counterfeit fraud effecting merchants. If a merchant or issuer does not support EMV by that time, they will assume liability for counterfeit card transactions.

So why this notice, well, for the following reasons:

Effective November 1, 2012, merchant with terminals identified as "Mature" will no longer be able to use their terminal to process Credit Cards, in fact the plan it to turn them off.
Merchants currently using one of the devices (Listed Below) must be migrated to an "Active" POS solution by October 1, 2013.

Please Note: If you are not actively swiping credit cards and instead key in all of your sale then there is a simple Virtual Terminal solution that will eliminate the need for another credit card terminal. If however you are actively swiping then your terminal must be replaced with a new device that meets all of the new requirement.
